As the Director of Choral Activities at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee, Dr. Zachary Durlam leads three choirs and teaches graduate and undergraduate conducting. Before arriving in Milwaukee, Durlam was the Director of Choral Activities at Fresno Pacific University in Fresno, California. While at FPU, his Concert Choir performed at the California All-State Music Education Conference and he was awarded the university’s 2013 Faculty Distinguished Service Award. Durlam received his bachelor’s degree from Luther College under Weston Noble, his master’s degree from the University of Iowa, and his doctorate in choral conducting from Michigan State University. He frequently works as a guest conductor, clinician, and adjudicator, including recent appearances as conductor of the 2013 California ACDA Central Region Mixed Honor Choir and presenter at the 2013 California All-State Music Education Conference. Durlam also taught high school vocal music for twelve years – the last nine at Iowa City West High School where the music department was recognized by the Grammy Foundation as a Gold Signature School (one of the top seven programs in the nation) and his Chamber Choir was chosen to perform at the North Central American Choral Directors Association convention. Durlam served for four years as the Iowa Choral Directors Association Repertoire and Standards Chair for men’s music and is an active tenor soloist.
