Franklin Jennings is serving his fifth year as the Director of Bands at Freedom High School where he directs three concert bands, two percussion ensembles, the marching band, teaches AP Music Theory and is Department Chair for Performing Arts. Prior to Freedom, Mr. Jennings served as the Associate Director of Bands at University High School, and Director of Bands at Gotha and Discovery Middle Schools.

Under Mr. Jennings direction, the Freedom High School Wind Ensemble earned a Superior rating in 2007 and 2010 at the Florida Bandmasters Association State Concert Band Music Performance Assessment. In 2009, the Wind Ensemble was invited to perform at the Stetson University Concert Band Invitational and in 2010, the Percussion Ensemble was invited to perform at the Florida Music Educator’s Association Clinic/Conference as well as the Percussive Arts Society Florida Day of Percussion. In 2012, the Percussion Ensemble was a featured performer at the "Collide" Percussion Festival at the University of Central Florida. Also in 2012, the Percussion Ensemble performed at the Music for All National Percussion Festival, the Wind Ensemble performed at the 2012 Music for All National Concert Band Festival, and the Winterguard Program earned its third medal the 2012 Winterguard International World Championships with the Gold in Open Class. In 2013, the Percussion Ensemble will be the featured guest performance ensemble at the 2013 Percussive Arts Society New York Chapter Weekend of Percussion and will also be returning to perform at the 2013 PAS Florida Day of Percussion at Stetson University.

Mr. Jennings earned the Master of Music degree in Wind Conducting in 2005 from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee under the guidance of Professor Thomas Dvorak. While at UWM, he served as a graduate conducting associate with the three collegiate bands and the two youth wind ensembles. He also served as Assistant Director of “Panther Band” and as the Assistant Director of the Summer Music Institute.

Mr. Jennings earned the Bachelor of Music Education degree in 2000 from Stetson University where he studied music education with Dr. Bobby Adams, trombone with Mr. David Schmidt, and voice with Mrs. Mollie Rich. While at Stetson, he served as the Treasurer of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and served as the Assistant Director of the “Sweat Band Brass.” He was named a Wheat Scholar, a Presidential Scholar, a Walt Disney World Foundation Scholar and was inducted into the National Order of Omega.
