Woody Herman Jazz Festival

THIRD ANNUAL WOODY HERMAN EDUCATIONAL JAZZ WORKSHOP

November 5-7, 2009

Helen Bader Concert Hall, Helene Zelazo Center for the Performing Arts, 2419 E. Kenwood Blvd.

The UWM Jazz Studies program hosts the third annual Woody Herman Educational Jazz Workshops for middle (November 5) and high school (November 6) jazz ensembles and a College Jazz Festival (November 7). Students will participate in clinics, master classes and full ensemble sessions; special activities for ensemble directors.

To register for the clinics, please call 414.229.4308. Fees range from $170-$220 per ensemble.

Public events include:

  • November 5, 2009, 5:30-7 pm: Reading band session (free). Join local artists and special guest Joe Pulice (percussion) and rread through Class A, B and C Jazz Ensemble charts. Bring your instrument! (Bader Concert Hall)
  • November 6, 2009, 9:30 pm-1 am: A jazz gig at the Jazz Estate, 2423 N. Murray Ave., on Friday, November 7, 2009, from 9:30 pm-1 am. Jim Pulice and several UWM artists will perform as the Woody Herman All Stars. (Cover applies.)
  • November 7, 2009 7:30 pm: Concert with UWM Youth Jazz Ensembles I & II, and the UWM and UW-Madison Jazz Ensembles with special guest percussionist Joe Pulice. Tickets: $10 general/$7 students, seniors & UWM alumni, faculty & staff. (Bader Concert Hall)
