Mutópe J. Johnson
Native Milwaukeean, Mutópe J. Johnson is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Whitewater, where he received his BFA Degree. His broad experiences include professional roles such as Art director and Creative Director Positions while concurrently painting for more than ten years as a visual artist.
Johnson’s current body of work focuses on a series of collaborations with poets from the Milwaukee area. The mutual connections are more than an intersection of common art interest, it becomes an useful artistic tool for presenting artworks in a format that promotes conversation about world history, popular music, literature, and spirituality and forms an intersection with today’s African-American contemporary art scene. “ Johnson has had exhibitions at Northern Kentucky University, Highland Heights, Ky, the Juxtaposition Gallery Minneapolis, Minnesota, the Susan Woodson Gallery Chicago, Illinois, the Peltz Gallery Milwaukee, and the Milwaukee Art Museum. Mutópe is currently pursuing his Master of Fine Arts degree in painting and drawing.
