Richard Mutz is a character. Whether staring into a video camera smoking a cigarette wearing a cowboy hat or leading tours through a state park dressed as park ranger, Richard uses performance and video to explore the everyday gestures and interactions that we use to form our identities, and the absurdity that is often accompanied by these exchanges. He was born in Joliet, IL and received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of St. Francis in 2005. After undergraduate study Richard moved to Chicago and spent two years working as an arachnologist in a research laboratory before moving to Milwaukee, WI to pursue his Master of Fine Arts. In 2009, he received his Master of Arts from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in Inter-media. He plans to complete his MFA in the spring of 2010 at UWM.
