Julie Petry


Julie Petry, a multi-Emmy nominated Director/Choreographer, currently resides in Chicago, and is a native of the beautiful Pacific Northwest. She is the recipient of multiple grant awards, was a semi-finalist for NY's DanceBreak in 2003 & 2004-an SDCF showcase for professional choreographers and directors, and was previously selected for "Best of New Dances" by the curator of Dance Chicago. Ms. Petry currently resides as the Choreographer in Residence for Dominican University's Performing Arts Theatre Series, and serves the University as an adjunct faculty teaching both dance and theatre courses. This year, Ms. Petry also directed two one act plays by Christopher Durang as part of the Arts Lab series. She is currently a performing member of the Lira Dance Ensemble-- a nationally touring professional Polish Dance and Music Company, and recently performed w/ the Lira in FL with the Sarasota Opera Company in their production of HALKA. Previous Directing/Choreographic credits include: PBS; The King Center, FL w/ Heartsong Communications; Dance Chicago; Duets for My Valentine; Around the Coyote Festival; SoulStance Festival; & the Metropolis Performing Arts Theatre Co., among others. Performing includes: Tom & Susana Evert Dance Theatre, OH; Ensemble Espanol Spanish Dance Theatre, IL; Kenny Rogers/ The Toy Shoppe National Tour; Melissa Thodos and Dancers/New Dances,IL; Ballet Entre Nous, IL; Light Opera Works, IL; Classics on Stage, IL; The Southern Arizona Light Opera Company, AZ. Additionally, she has worked w/ such artists as Paul Christiano on his signature work "Miracle Interupted" --previously commissioned by the Joffrey Ballet Chicago, and David Dorfman and the White Oak Dance Project via Columbia College.
