Corbett Toomsen

Corbett Toomsen is a multi-disciplinary artist pursuing an MFA in InterMedia Studio Art at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee.

Originally from Iowa, Corbett Toomsen has lived in Wisconsin for nearly twenty years working as an architectural project manager and illustrator, as a published and exhibiting artist and designer, and as Adjunct faculty teaching various courses at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, where he earned a BFA in Illustration in 2004. With an ongoing appreciation for investigating the relationships between individual identity, shared experiences, and artist as communicator, Toomsen concentrates his graduate studies on continuing to build upon his visual vocabulary with an exploratory approach to media and narrative. His current work consists of displaced figures in constructed environments and, borrowing from the tradition of vernacular photography, addresses a collective, vulnerable (middle-class) cultural history through the broken moments of a fleeting leisure.
