Stories of Impact
Joe Drobka (BFA Theatre, '80)
A single introductory theatre course at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee convinced Joe Drobka to pursue a career in the arts, and those lessons and experiences have stayed with him to this day. Although the Milwaukee native was involved in his high school's drama program, he came to UWM after a year off to study in the School of Letters and Science. He entered the technical theatre program in its early days and says that it was a good, well-rounded experience for him. He also gained experience outside of the classroom with a technical internship at the Milwaukee Repertory Theater.
Joe is the Founder and President of Drobka Scenic, a theater scenery company in Connecticut that serves theaters in southern New England, installs stage curtains and rigging in new construction and is a consultant to many area architects on new auditorium projects. He credits UWM to helping him become successful in the theater industry and pays it back through earmarked funds for tools and equipment for the school's technical theater program. Joe says that he is supporting the Peck School to "show [his] appreciation."
