Greetings to Our Friends and Visitors!
A Message from Our Acting Dean, Stephen L. Percy
At a time when the impact of public health efforts are beginning to be understood throughout the world, it is critical to engage in scholarly research and education that brings new tools to the front lines of the public health workforce by increasing knowledge that can transform public health outcomes. To this end, I am pleased to join with other campus leaders in activating the new School of Public Health (SPH) at UW-Milwaukee. This action has been approved by the faculty and administration of UW-Milwaukee, UW System Administration, UW System Board of Regents, and Wisconsin General Assembly. Its mission is to conduct rigorous public health research and scholarship; educate the current and future public health workforce; and influence the development of strategies and policies that promote health among diverse populations.
Since 2006, there has been a tremendous amount of effort and energy put into the planning of this School of Public Health by dozens of dedicated, passionate people. Together we have worked hard to develop a school that will have a strong and positive impact on UWM, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and the world.
Generous thanks go to the UWM School of Public Health Planning Council, and its numerous subcommittees that have put forth substantial energy to infrastructure planning, development of the Graduate Certificate in Public Health, the PhD in Environmental and Occupational Health, and continue to mold the developing Masters of Public Health and PhD programs.
In the words of our founding donor, Joseph J. Zilber, "The school can play a critical role in the future of our city...becoming another sign...that there is hope and someone does care." It is a great honor to work with the talented students, faculty and staff in UWM's School of Public Health, who passionately care about preventing disease, and promoting the health of all people in our city, our state, and across the globe.
I invite you to contact us to keep up-to-date on the school's progress.
