CHILDREN'S COMMUNITY HEALTH PLAN INTERN
Children's Hospital and Health Systems

Children’s Hospital and Health Systems, Milwaukee, WI, has an exciting opportunity for an individual interested in an internship with Children’s Community Health Plan.

A flexible weekly schedule is offered. This position will require working 10-15 hours per week during each college semester. During semester breaks this position could provide up to 30-40 hours per week. Compensation is $10/hour. 

The intern will be under the general direction of the Director, HMO Clinical Services.  This position supports the professional and leadership staff in the department with assistance on operational, clinical, or advocacy projects which ultimately benefit the members of the health plan.  

Requires active enrollment in a college undergraduate bachelor’s degree program.  Strong preference for candidates who have completed their sophomore year in college and have an interest in a future career in the field of public health. 

Experience working with ACCESS database preferred.

GRADUATE PROJECT ASSISTANT (STUDENT JOB)
50% Project Assistant

This position works directly with faculty investigators in the Zilber School of Public Health. Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Sociology, Psychology, Anthropology or a related degree. Must be enrolled in at least 6 credits in a UW-Milwaukee graduate program. Knowledge of Microsoft Office including PowerPoint and Excel is required. Qualitative research skills -experience with Atlas ti or NVIVO qualitative software strongly preferred. Strong inter-personnel and organizational skills and professional writing skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Research Assistant is responsible for assisting with data management, analysis, report writing, and publication and presentation preparation. Listed below are more specific responsibilities. Assist in analysis of qualitative and quantitative data. Assist in preparing project reports, manuscripts for publication and professional presentations and course material. Conduct and summarize detailed literature reviews on selected topics. Assist investigators with tasks related to the coordination and implementation of research protocols.

KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES
The ideal candidate should be proficient in using and maintaining computer systems with Windows XP operating systems. This person should have qualitative research experience and familiarity using qualitative software such as Atlas ti and should be thoroughly familiar with UWM on-line library resources. This person must also be organized, highly motivated, self driven and able to multi-task without sacrificing accuracy and have the ability to prioritize projects while consistently ensuring that deadlines are achieved. Strong computer skills and the ability to understand quantitative data including willingness to learn different statistical software packages, including STATA is a plus.

CREDIT LOAD
Students without dissertator status, 6 graduate credits in any one semester

TERM OF APPOINTMENT
This is a 9-month appointment at 20 hours per week. Work hours can be flexible. Prefer the ability to commit to a two-year assistantship (second year dependent upon performance in the first year). Compensation is determined by university assistantship salary and stipend schedules. A non-doctoral, C Basis, 9-month appointment qualifies the graduate student for tuition remission, fringe benefits, and a stipend of $10,471.

HEALTH PROJECT ASSISTANT II
City of Milwaukee Health Department
Two positions available - Full-time and .75 FTE

PURPOSE

The Health Project Assistant assures the efficient operation, maintenance and quality assurance of the Fetal and Infant Mortality Review (FIMR) Program; abstracts medical and social service system records’ data on all City of Milwaukee fetal and infant deaths; and assists with program reporting and data analysis

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Medical Record & Social Service Record Abstraction

  • Read and compile data from prenatal, postnatal, hospital, pediatric and additional records on fetal and infant deaths
  • Collect case information and produce working case narratives and summaries on fetal and infant death cases

Information System Management

  • Input FIMR data into Microsoft Access and Excel databases
  • Maintain timely and accurate data input, processing, and analysis
  • Develop necessary program forms needed for database data entry
  • Make suggestions for improving data management and reporting systems

Program Operations/Support

  • Assist with program strategic planning, quality assurance, academic research support, annual and quarterly program statistics, and program reports to funding agencies
  • Work with contract Maternal Interviewers to provide them with up-to-date family information
  • Liaise with FIMR Case Review Team and community organizations to maintain FIMR community ties
  • Provide training to other FIMR teams around the State, as needed
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

1. Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Social Work, or other related field from an accredited college or university.
AND
One year of experience with relational databases or working with or reading medical records or performing duties related to this position.

2. Valid driver's license and a properly insured vehicle at time of appointment and throughout employment. Car allowance is provided.
3. Residency in the City of Milwaukee within six months of appointment and throughout employment.

THE CURRENT SALARY RANGE (5F).

The annual rates for Health Project Assistant are $41,495 - $46,975.  Recruitment is at the beginning of the pay range.

THE SELECTION PROCESS will be job related and will consist of one or more of the following: education and experience evaluation; written, oral or performance exams; or other assessment methods. The Department of Employee Relations reserves the right to call only the most qualified candidates to oral or performance exams. Oral examinations may include written exercises. Selection process component weights will be determined by further analysis of the job.

ASSOCIATE/ASSISTANT/SENIOR SCIENTIST

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Research Scientist will support a research team focusing on developing and testing strategies to prevent HIV and STD, and to improve the health of those with HIV. Primary duties include: Analyzing data and developing manuscripts using existing data from HIV prevention intervention trials, assisting in preparation of research grant applications, conducting literature reviews for manuscripts and grant applications, managing pilot studies, coordinating team scheduling activities, producing reports, presentations and analyses that fulfill donor requirements, international commitments, on-site requests and in-house programmatic demands.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Doctorate degree in related field
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in research on prevention, care and treatment of HIV and related conditions is required
  • Intermediate-level proficiency with data analysis using SPSS, SAS, and/or Stata is required
  • Ability to work independently is required
  • Strong analytic and problem-solving skills with the ability to foresee problems and initiate appropriate action is required
  • Excellent writing and communication skills are required.
  • Quantitative data-based publications are preferred.
  • Project management experience is preferred
  • Interests in international public health and broader structural factors in public health such as food security and economic factors is preferred

ASSOCIATE RESEARCH SPECIALIST (50%)
Racine County Cooperative Extension

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Research Specialist will take primary responsibility for enrolling jailed parents into the study and for collecting data, both in the jail setting and home environments. The Research Specialist will conduct interviews, observations, and home visits, and may conduct standardized assessments with children. The Research Specialist will establish interrater reliability with the primary investigator and with other project staff on several observational measures. The Research Specialist must abide by the highest ethics and confidentiality in this work with vulnerable and diverse populations. The Research Specialist will work with the Racine County UW-Extension Family Living Educator and other project staff to coordinate work activities.

This position is a fixed-term academic staff appointment in the University of Wisconsin-Extension's division of Cooperative Extension.  The appointment is anticipated to start on May 1, 2012 and run through August 31, 2013.  Reappointment to this position beyond the initial term is not anticipated.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in a field that relates to the responsibilities of this position such as family sciences, human development, public health, social work, criminal justice, health education
  • Ability to work with diverse and vulnerable populations affiliated with the correctional system
  • Ability to communicate ideas effectively orally, in writing and through web-based technology
