Flu News You Can Use
New Key Developments:
- The Milwaukee Health Department (MHD) will hold two large public vaccination clinics: on Thursday November 19, 2009 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Sara Scott Complex (1017 N. 12th Street) and on Friday November 20, 2009 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm at South Division High School (1515 W. Lapham Blvd.). The doses of vaccine given at these clinics will be targeted towards the following groups of individuals:
- Pregnant women
- *EXPANDED AGE RANGE* Children aged 6 months to 18 years of age
- Healthcare workers with direct patient contact
- Adults aged 25 to 64 years of age with underlying medical conditions
The MHD is exploring the possibility of expanding vaccination to the general public in the near future pending vaccine availability. Should this decision be made before the next MHD Situational Awareness Report, an email will be sent to all current recipients of this report.
- WDHS has reported 11 additional deaths (none in Milwaukee County) in Wisconsin due to 2009 Influenza A (H1N1) since November 11, 2009. This brings the current total of deaths in Wisconsin to 31 due to 2009 Influenza A (H1N1).
- For the first time in the last 7 weeks, MHD has identified a decrease in emergency department visits for influenza like illness (fever plus cough or sore throat); however current levels remain quite high and it is too early to know if a decreasing trend will continue
