Stella K.

MPH - Community and Behavioral Health Promotion

Stella is a first year MPH student with an emphasis in Community and Behavioral Health Promotion. After receiving her B.A., she served on international volunteer missions in China and rural areas of the Philippines for  a year. Prior to joining the Joseph J. Zilber School of Public Health, she volunteered for almost three years at the Korean American Special Education Center, the only nonprofit organization of its kind in the United States to serve Korean American individuals with special needs. As a 1.5 generation immigrant, Stella is bi-cultural and bilingual, hoping to incorporate the duality of U.S. and Korean culture in her future work and research. Stella’s current areas of academic interest and focus include  health disparities among Asian Americans, community-based research focusing on  barriers to health care, global health, immigrant and refugee health, trauma and PTSD, noncommunicable diseases, cultural competency, racism, and the pursuit of social justice. While earning her MPH as a full-time student, she will be pursuing a graduate certificate in nonprofit management. Stella currently works as a Student Assistant at the Zilber School of Public Health. She considers herself a lifelong learner, always seeking to expand her understanding of the world and takes joy in making a difference in people’s lives.
