Welcome!
The UWM Real Estate Foundation (UWMREF) was created in 2005 to develop and hold real estate for the benefit of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM). In July 2006, we broke ground on our inaugural project, Riverview Residence Hall. In January 2008, RiverView welcomed its first residents.
RiverView, a 488-bed facility, was designed in partnership with University Housing staff in an effort to address the critical shortage of University-operated student housing. Currently, approximately 28,000 students are enrolled at UWM. The University, however, can offer housing to only 10% of those students. University-based housing is a vital component of a student's education. Research has shown its potential to significantly enhance a student's academic experience and performance. We are pleased to provide this valuable asset to UWM and its students with zero taxpayer funding.
As our Foundation continues to grow, we will explore ways in which we can support other aspects of the University's mission, including the development of research facilities, academic space and facilities that promote regional economic development.
Public/Private partnerships are the key to growth of public higher education in the 21st century. I am honored to serve as chair of the UWM Real Estate Foundation, and to have the opportunity to leverage the power of these partnerships for the future of the Metropolitan Milwaukee Region.
Sincerely,
Mark E. Brickman
Chair
