The UWM Research Foundation is UWM's own organization to support research and innovation at UW-Milwaukee. The Research Foundation provides a broad range of programs including intellectual property management, complementing the role of the WiSys Technology Foundation in licensing certain federally funded technologies.

The UWM Research Foundation supports UW-Milwaukee and UWM researchers in protecting their intellectual property including providing resources to patent promising ideas.

Technology transfer is the process of moving ideas from the laboratory to the commercial marketplace. The Research Foundation assists researchers in connecting with the private sectors through corporate sponsored research projects, research collaborations and the spin out of technology.
University Spin-outs
University-based spinout companies are an important way to bring technology from the laboratory to the marketplace, open up new funding opportunities and foster collaborations with the private sector. The UWM Research Foundation assists researchers in creating spinout companies through a staged process that maximizes the chance for success of new enterprises.
Corporate Research Collaboration
The UWM Research Foundation is working to link researchers with industries in Southeastern Wisconsin and beyond. The Research Foundation assists this process by helping identify opportunities and assisting in negotiating corporate sponsored research agreements.
