You can read more about our winners here: SAC recognizes exemplary service

In 1999, the Student Accessibility Center (SAC) saw the need to honor
instructional staff for their effective teaching strategies when working with students with disabilities. The SAC team implemented and hosted a new award program, the Above & Beyond Awards.  SAC created this award to honor instructional staff that demonstrated exemplary service to SAC students, insuring the quality of their educational experience at UWM. Often, there are many acts of service that go unrecognized.

In 2009 we changed the name of our award to the SAC Excellence Award to better reflect the exemplary efforts individuals have made to eliminate barriers for full access for students with disabilities in their educational pursuits at UWM.  This annual award additionally serves to generate awareness across campus of the needs of students with disabilities.

Any UWM instructional staff member is eligible to be nominated for the SAC Excellence Award.  The nominating SAC student(s) should base the recommendation on the following criteria:

Instructional staff:
  • Ensures that students whose disabilities often require creative solutions have equal access to UWM classes and programs
  • Shows professionalism when interacting with SAC students and SAC staff
  • Shows evidence of sensitivity to this diverse student population
  • Shows evidence of integrating the concept of Universal Design into the course
(Universal Design: The design of products and environments to be usable by all people, to the greatest extent possible, without the need for adaptation or specialized design.)

We will accept nominations between December 1 and April 2 at 4:30 pm.  Late submissions will not be considered.
If you have had an instructional staff member provide you with outstanding service, please nominate them!  Forms are available in the SAC office and from your Program Manager, or you can download it here in pdf format.

Nomination Form

Selecting SAC Excellence Award recipients is not a competition.  It is intended to recognize instructional staff members who demonstrate exemplary service to SAC students and staff.  The success of this award process is contingent upon your involvement.
