Staff Interpreter
The University of
Wisconsin-Milwaukee Student Accessibility Center's Deaf/Hard of Hearing
Program invites applications for the position of Student Services
Specialist (or Associate Student Service Specialist) Sign Language
Interpreter with the Student Accessibility Center Deaf/Hard of Hearing
Program. We have a 9-month academic year renewable staff position with
benefits open. Staff hired at an Associate Student Services Specialist
level (pre-RID certified) will participate in a supportive, in-house
mentoring program. See

Services Specialist level (RID or NAD certified) will have the option
to participate in our mentoring program.
The Student Accessibility
Center assists the university in providing students with disabilities
access to all of its services and programs through the provision of
reasonable accommodations and promotes an atmosphere of
nondiscrimination on the basis of disability. SAC's Deaf/Hard of
Hearing Program's mission is to insure that UWM students who are deaf
or hard of hearing have equal access to all UWM academic program and
experiences.
Job Duties:
- Interpret/transliterate
(sign language) for classroom lectures, discussions, labs and related
activities as well as other campus and community activities.
- Prepare for classes
and consult with professors and TAs.
- Assist with program
support functions as assigned.
Minimum
Qualifications:
- BA/BS degree
- Successful
completion of an Interpreter Training Program or equivalent to perform
duties required.
Preferred
Qualifications:
- RID Certification or
National Interpreter Certification (NIC) preferred (or commitment to
actively pursue certification within 2 years)
- At least 2 years
interpreting experience preferred
- Post-secondary
experience preferred.
