SPENDING STATE FUNDS
The UW-System and the State of Wisconsin has made
many changes in rules for spending money this year. If your organization
received money from
the Student Association or in the Check-off Election, you need to make
sure you understand all the rule changes prior to making any purchase
or expenditure arrangements. Failure to do so may result in you not being
reimbursed for a purchase or allowed to proceed with an expenditure.
For instructions on spending segregated fee funds please contact the
Student Activities Office at activities@uwm.edu.
OVER 60 ORGANIZATIONS FAILED
TO RENEW
Quite a few student organizations failed to renew their registration
status with the university. Many of the groups did not check their mail
box or read the monthly email updates. It is very important for group
to make sure when they change officers to educate the new officers of
the importance of reading the updates and checking their mail regularly.
Besides the mandatory renewal of organizations each September, Student
Association and UWM departments provide groups with important information
via these communication methods, i.e. funding procedures and deadlines.
Monthly emails are sent to all 4 student contacts listed with the Student
Activities Office. Please make sure at least one contact for your group
is reading and sharing this information to your group members.

IMPORTANT FUNDING REMINDERS
When your group is approved for a SAC emergency
grant (under $700), your organization's funding will not be available
until the President
of the Student Association signs the SAC allocation bill. The Student
Activities Office will be notified of the approval and groups can make
arrangements with SAO after that date to spend the money. If the President
vetoes the allocation, your group will have to attend a Senate meeting
to ask the Senate to override the veto, which will take a 2/3rds majority.
When your group is approved for a SAC large grant (November or April),
your organization's funding will not be available until the Student Association
Senate approves the allocation and the SA President signs the SAC allocation
bill. The Senate may deny or change the allocation. The SA President
may approve or veto the Senate actions on the allocation. If approved
by both Senate and the President, November Large grants will be available
January 1st through June 15th and April Large Grants will be available
July 15th through December 31st. Expenditures for large grants MUST occur
within the designated timeframe or the money will be returned to the
