SPRING SAC GRANT MEETING
The Spring Grant Meeting (over $700 funding requests) will be held November
19, 2005. SAC will put an agenda together prior to the meeting in order
to inform groups where and when they should show up. As soon as more
information becomes available, you will be notified. Remember the deadline
for the Spring Grants is this Friday (Nov. 4) at 11am - please do not
wait until the last moment to turn in your forms. Any forms received
after 11 am will not be considered.
THE NEW SINGLE WOMAN: CHALLENGING THE SOUL MATE IDEAL
Thursday, November 3, 12:30-1:30pm in Union E240, FREE.
Author Kay Trimberger, a sociologist and professor emerita of Women's
and Gender Studies at Sonoma State University, talks about how single
women are creating fulfilling lives. Drawing on the personal stories
of diverse, long-term single women, including herself, Trimberger explores
the idea that fulfillment comes
only through finding a soul mate. Co-sponsored by the UWM Department
of Sociology, Center on Age and Community, Center for Women's Studies

THE RAK-ATHON IS HERE!
It's not too late to register for this year's RAK-athon! We are still
looking for participants for Saturday, November 5th from 9am-noon to
go out into the community and help local elderly winterize their homes.
Sign up with a student organization, a group of friends, or individually.
Breakfast and transportation will be provided.

INTERNATIONAL BAZAAR
The International Bazaar will be held at the Zelazo Center on Thursday,
November 17th and the Global Student Alliance asking for any international
students or student groups who want to have booths at this year’s
event. We are looking for students to bring cultural items, traditional
attire, information, food, etc. The Bazaar runs from 10am-2pm, and we
will need someone to be present at each booth at all times. Each booth
is also required to provide some sort of refreshments from their culture,
but will be reimbursed $50 from CIE. It would be great to have as many
cultures and ideas present as possible. If you know of anyone who would

OPEN SOURCE EVENT
Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers - Computer Society (IEEE-CS)
will be hosting a Linux Install Seminar Saturday, November 19, 2005 in
EMS E295 Interested in Computers? Curious about Linux? Here's your chance
to try out this free, open-source operating system.
9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. - Ubuntu (a Debian-based distribution)
1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. - Red Hat Fedora Core 4
Participants should bring a functioning desktop or notebook computer
with (1) a 32- or 64-bit IBM-compatible processor or an Apple/PowerPC
processor, (2) a hard drive that can be completely erased, and (3) a
suitable power cord. Participants will perform a Linux installation on
\their machine in an instructor-led setting. The IEEE Computer Society
Student Chapter at UWM will prepare Linux installation disks and ethernet
cables, and will provide VGA-style monitors and PS/2 keyboards and mice
for use with desktop machines. There will be a $1 fee for participation
in the Ubuntu session, and a $5 fee for participation in the Fedora session.
Your installation CD's are yours to keep. To participate in the seminar,

WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH
The Women's Resource Center is currently developing a committee of folks
to plan Women's History Month '06 and would love you to participate!!
