Warning: Bogus Fundraisers
DJ
Ventures came and talked to an organization about a fundraiser (pizza sales,
etc.) This company contacts organizations by the flyers in the Union and
sending emails. An organization contacted them and sold 32 pizzas.
The group never heard back from the company, so those students
who sold the pizzas had to answer to angry people.
TIPS:
Before answering an email or flyer, please check out the company through
the Better Business Bureau www.wisconsin.bbb.org.
If they are not listed, then try verifying the company's address
and phone numbers. Ask for the company's full name and address.
If they have a physical local address (not a P. O. Box), then
you can go there if you have problems. Get the names and phone
numbers of the owners. Ask for a list of clients or customers you can
contact for references. Make sure
the references given are legitimate, like a local high school
or another UWM student organization. Follow-up on the references
to be sure there were no problems. If you have problems contact
Campus Police if money was lost and notify the Better Business
Bureau.

semi-final round and 11th in the final competition. The squad

"Stuff
Sale"
If
your organization is looking for a great way to earn money and help others,
the "Stuff Sale" might be your answer. The Stuff Sale
is a giant yard sale that happens in the fall. The student org
would collect items that students throw away in the spring (text
books, furniture, clothes, cinder blocks, etc.), sort it over
the summer, and sell it in the fall. If you'd like more information about this idea, email Erin at epearce@uwm.edu.
