Leading Edge Newsletter - August
Volume 9 - Issue 1
The Center for Student Involvement (used to be SOAR) will be undergoing a lot of changes in the next few months. Erin Pearce took job at Illinois State University and we are currently searching for a replacement. It appears that Pam Zamiatowski, Financial Specialist, will not be returning to work so we will be starting a search procedure to replace her. Barb Harmon-Parmely has been hired as a temporary accountant to help out while Pam's position is vacant. Unfortunately Barb can only work 2-3 days a week so processing of financial transactions will take much longer than normal. Please be patient as the office staff tries to cover the duties of the missing staff members during our busy month of the year.

Organization Renewal Forms

Group Registration materials will be put in or sent to student organizations mailboxes on August 19th or 20th. They will be due the last Friday of September (9/24) - however we encourage people to get them in sooner. Every organization must submit one of these forms regardless of how recently you may have turned in a change of officer's form.

Student Organization & Campus Service Fair

The fair will be Thursday, September 9, 2004, 11:30 am to 1:30 p.m. in Spaights Plaza. There will be Free Food, Giveaways, Games, and Fun for All. There are still 2-3 booth spaces left, so if your organization did not sign up – send an email to tommc@uwm.edu to reserve one. If you have already signed up, confirmation letters will be going out tomorrow by email and snail mail. More information can be found at: www.activities.uwm.edu.

Contracts not to be signed by students

If are planning to use any money given to your group through segregated fees (SAC, check-off, or SFC) please see a Student Activities Advisor prior to making any arrangement with a speaker, band, DJ, hotel, or any other person that is requiring you to sign a contract. If money from your Student Activities account will be used to pay a portion or the entire contract, the UWM purchasing department staff are the only individuals allowed to sign the contract. It takes about 30 days to process a contract, so if you are planning an event, please all enough time for the contract to be processed.

SAC Meeting

The next SAC meeting will be September 8, 2004 at 8 pm in room E280 of the Union Building. All grant requests must be turned into the Center for Student Involvement by Noon on September 2, 2004. Remember to include price quotes and documentation for all your expense. If you are interested in serving on SAC, please contact the Student Association Office for a committee form (363 Union). Student Organization representatives on SAC will be appointed at the next Senate meeting, September 12th.

Campus Employment, Internships, and Volunteerism Fair

Sandburg Move-in Days

University Housing is gearing up to welcome its students to campus, and as a member of the UWM community, you are invited to join in on the fun! New students begin moving in on August 27th, and continue through August 29th. Students returning to Sandburg and Purin Halls will move in on August 30th and 31st. 2004 UWM Student Leadership Retreat
This retreat, held at YMCA Camp Minikani, just 30 minutes from the UWM campus, in a secluded, rural setting, will offer students a chance to work with other students and learn about themselves through personal assessment interpretation. Fun activities like a ropes course, bon fire, and evening party are also planned. There is no cost to attend this retreat and transportation is provided, however registration is limited to the first 75 students. For more information and to register contact the CVSL Director, Laurie Marks at lmarks@uwm.edu.
