CHECK YOUR MAILBOX FOR THE FALL RENEWAL FORMS
Fall renewal forms were sent to student organizations on August 21, 2009. The renewal forms will be due to the Center for Student Involvement, Union 363, Friday, September 25, 2009 by Noon. Groups failing to turn in their renewal forms will become inactive and lose all university privileges, such as: segregated fee funding, room reservations, office space, etc. Change of officer forms cannot be used in lieu of the renewal form. We encourage people to get them in sooner, so that new students can be given more accurate information about clubs and groups on campus. Please check with all your officers to make sure someone turns in this form by the posted deadline.
SENATE APPROPRIATIONS COMMITTEE MEETING CHANGES
The September 2nd SAC meeting has been cancelled. Another meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday, September 16, 2009, at 7:00 PM, in the SA Office, Union EG79. All forms are due by 7:00PM Thursday, September 10, 2009 to the Senate Appropriations Committee Office (Union Room 351). STUDENT ORGANIZATION JUMP START (last chance to register!)
On Tuesday, September 1, 2009 the Center for Student Involvement will be sponsoring a new program entitled Student Organization Jump Start. This event will be a day-long mini-conference format (9am-4pm) and is designed to “jump start” student organizations before the beginning of the fall semester so that they may make better and more timely use of resources through the coming year both as individual members and as groups. This event is on Facebook under the group “Student Organizations at UWM.” Limited capacity, advance sign up required. SAC CHAIR MEMO
Welcome back from a much needed summer break! My name is Anthony DeWees and I am the new Senate Appropriations Committee (SAC) Chairman. I have been busy planning out this year’s SAC meetings and trainings and have also updated the SAC Website to better help assist you with any questions you may have about SAC.
I would like to announce that SAC Semester (Large) Grants will be heard in the Union Fireside Lounge on November 13, 14, and 15. The Semester Grants are due to the SAC Office (Union 351) by 5PM October 30, 2009. Prior to the Semester Grant Meetings on September 28, 2009 at 6PM in the Fireside, I will hold a Semester Grant Training for all Student Organizations. It is encouraged that all organizations who want to apply for Semester Grants attend this training.
SAC has also set its schedule for the rest of the Semester, and will meet the first Wednesday at 7PM of each month in the SA Office (EG79). CAMPUS EXPO: ORGANIZATION AND CAMPUS RESOURCE FAIR
The student organization fair will be held Wednesday, September 9, 2009, in Spaights Plaza from 10 am to 2 pm. The event will also include campus jobs, services, mentors, along with student organizations. This is a great way to promote your organization and get more members. Organizations may sign up for a booth space by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org (Spaces are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis). Open tables at 10:00 am on that day will be given to organizations on the waiting list. NOTE: Campus departments will register with the Career Development Center and they should be contacting departments later in the summer.
NEW OFFICER TRAINING
The first fall training session for student organizations will be “New Officer Training: Getting Things Done On Campus” September 15 & 16 (repeating session) at 3:00pm in Union 340. For more information on student organization training visit www.activities.uwm.edu.
THE STUDENT LEADERSHIP RETREAT - SEPT 19-20

The Student Leadership Retreat is an annual trip to Camp Minikani for students at UWM that are interested in improving their leadership skills and making their campus and community a better place. This year the retreat is planned for September Saturday 19 & 20, 2009. At the retreat nearly 200 students will enjoy the beautiful grounds of Camp Minikani while honing their leadership skills. Students do high and low ROPES course, play Econtonos, do personality inventories, solve ethical dilemmas, and partake in a bonfire social. The retreat is free to students, but space is limited, so register today and mark your calendar! STUDENT ORGANIZATION PRINTING
Printing/Copying for Student Organizations IKON closed in June 2009. Union Marketing (Union WG50) is taking over all printing/copying requests for student organizations. They even offer design services. Please see Union Marketing for a complete list of services and student organization pricing. There is no need for a print sheet anymore and any officer with financial ability for the organization will be able to get items printed or copied. Charges will be billed to the student organization account through the Center for Student Involvement. If there are insufficient funds, organization officers will be held personally liable for those costs.
If your student organization will be driving for student organization business in the fall, submit a Driver Authorization Application to the Center for Student Involvement when you return from summer break to make your vehicle rental set up go more quickly. Risk Management did a purge of the driver authorization website removing all names of students who were not enrolled in classes for fall semester. If a member of your student organization was not enrolled in fall classes as of June 22, his/her Driver Authorization Application was purged.
Forms can be found: http://www4.uwm.edu/sao/forms/forms.cfm. For students with Wisconsin driver licenses, complete the Driver Authorization form. Properly completed Driver Authorization forms take minimum of a week to process.
If you don't have a Wisconsin driver license, please consider having student members with Wisconsin driver licenses drive for your organization to avoid a $10 fee or getting an official copy of your driving record from your Department of Motor Vehicles. ENGELMANN GYM RESERVATIONS
A Student organizations and club sports meeting will be held Tuesday Sept 8, 2009 7:30 pm in
Klotsche Center Room 122 to reserve times in the Engelmann gym. Times are limited (generally late Friday evenings, Saturdays and Sundays) and are assigned on an impartial basis. Space is available to student organizations in 11/2 hr increments and club sports (competitive) on a 2-hour increment. Representatives of the organization may request a one-time space only on the first day of registration. If a second time slot is desired (and available), the organization MUST return after all the first round of reservation are confirmed. During the meeting we will randomly pick numbers for the order of registration and space time in Engelmann gym. Numbers will not be given out earlier then the meeting at 7:30 pm on Tues Sept 8th. Post advertising Spotlight ads
The Center for Student Involvement is accepting submissions from student organizations for “spotlight” ads in the UWM Post newspaper for 13 issues during fall 2009. Student organizations may advertise their events by submitting detailed information prior to the submission deadline. To take advantage of this free service, email your information to firstname.lastname@example.org. The submission deadline is every Thursday by 5:00PM two weeks prior to your event date. To view the publication schedule, visit www.uwmpost.com and click on “Media kit.” All approved submissions will share the available ad space. Submissions are subject to approval and space availability. The Center for Student Involvement reserves the right to deny submissions. Pantherlink Subscription Center
The PantherLink Subscription Center is a publicly available collection of primarily campus-focused calendars. These calendars can be browsed and searched, and individual calendars can be subscribed to either via the UWM-supported PantherLink interface or by downloading an .ICS file that can be imported into a number of e-mail/calendar applications. The Subscription Center will be launch in phases beginning in Fall 2009. Student organizations who wish to have events added to the Subscription Center calendar should contact the Center for Student Involvement at firstname.lastname@example.org for additional information on submission processes and criteria. Events must be submitted well in advance for consideration. Event submissions should be for unique events rather than for on-going or repetitive meetings, study groups, etc.
