CONGRATULATIONS TO All GRADUATES
If you graduated this semester, we congratulate you on your achievement and wish you the best as you plan out your future. For those returning in the fall, please have a safe, productive, and enjoyable summer. We look forward to your return in August. Don’t forget, we will remain available in person and online to help you achieve your personal and organizational goals all summer long.
The Center for Student Involvement is changing its Name!
Over the course of the summer, the Student Activates Office will be changing its name to the Center for Involvement and Student Organizations. While we will continue to strive to provide excellent programs, services, and support to student organizations at UWM, we will also be developing new initiatives to help students across campus seek out opportunities to get involved on campus and beyond. Look for more information on our website and around campus about student employment opportunities and new ways you can get connected to Student Involvement!
Beginning Monday, May 23rd the Center for Student Involvement will be open the following hours:
Monday – Thursday 7:45am - 4:30pm
Friday 7:45am – 3:30pm
As always, if you wish to meet with a specific staff member we welcome appointments and can be flexible with your schedule. You can also access information and forms 24 hours a day on our website at www.activities.uwm.edu and via PantherSync.
NOTE: We will be closed Friday, May 27th for a furlough day and on Monday, May 30th to observe the Memorial Day Holiday.
CAMPUS KICK-OFF 2011: CAMPUS EXPO (STUDENT ORGANIZATION FAIR)
September 7, 2011, 10am-2pm, Spaights Plaza
The Campus Expo: Jobs, Organization & Service Fair is an informational fair where over 70 organizations and 30 campus department representatives provide students with information on campus jobs, services, mentors, and student organizations. This is a great way to promote your organization and get more members. Organizations may sign up for a booth space by completing the “Campus Expo 2011 table reservation “ form in PantherSync (Spaces are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis). Open tables at 10:00 am on that day will be given to organizations on the waiting list. NOTE: Campus departments will register with the Career Development Center and they should be contacting departments later in the summer.
DON'T SPEND IT YET – Large Grant Funds Spending Timeline
If SAC approved grant funding for your group at the large grant meeting in April – STOP AND WAIT. The money is not actually approved yet. First the funding must be approved by the Student Senate and then approved by the SA president. These approvals have not yet occurred, sometimes due to the SA election and turnover – it does not happen until June. STILL WAIT – Even when the Senate and the President approves the funds, you cannot spend the money UNTIL JULY 2011. The April Large Grant meeting allocates funds for the NEXT FISCAL YEAR and will not be available until July 1, 2011. Please remember, YOU WILL NOT BE REIMBURSED FOR ANY EXPENSE THAT OCCURS PRIOR TO JULY 1, 2011. Please tell everyone in your group that was involved in the grant request. There are no exceptions to this rule.

June 21 Last day to submit an order which can be paid for by Visa.

NEIGHBORHOOD CLEAN UP – MAY 13
Join the Neighborhood Housing Office and Adventure Center on Friday, May 13 for an adventure around the UWM neighborhood. Treasure hunt for trash while helping beautify the Upper East Side. Participants will be helping by cleaning up litter in the neighborhood. The event will run from 2-6pm with a cookout following the event. Contact the Adventure Center at firstname.lastname@example.org to sign up!
SORT FOOD AT HUNGER TASK FORCE – JUNE 8
On Wednesday, June 8 from 4:30-8:30pm the CVSL will take volunteers to sort food at Hunger Task Force so it can go to local food pantries. Transportation provided! If you can volunteer, please email email@example.com to sign up!
VOLUNTEER AT THE MILWAUKEE ART MUSEUM
Volunteer this summer with the latest exhibit at the Milwaukee Art Museum, Milwaukee Art Museum volunteers greet Museum visitors at entrances, offer navigational assistance in the Museum, distribute audio guides and general information, and assist with Museum Store customer service. VOLUNTEER AT A FOOD PANTRY ON TUESDAYS OR THURSDAYS THIS SUMMER!
Each week the CVSL sends volunteers to go to Hope House food pantry to stock shelves, organize, do inventory, and assist with clients. Transportation is provided! We go on Tuesdays and Thursday from noon–2:30pm. To sign up for a shift, email email@example.com.
