Computer Allocations

Computers will be allocated to rooms, not organizations. If you are changing rooms, DO NOT move your computer from the room. Computers will be allocated to rooms as see fit by CSI-Tech; computers must have a stable surface for the computer to be placed on and reachable ports for both data and power.

Your Data is Your Responsibility
All organizations, (including those without offices) have access to our file servers and/or PantherFile* for organization-related document and file storage. If you have documents stored on a computer, you are responsible for moving them to either the CSI Fileserver, PantherFile, or transferring them via USB thumb drive or burning optical media. If your organization has special software installed on your computer (such as the Adobe Creative Suite) it is your responsibility to contact the CSI Technology manager to make sure your applications transfer with you.

*See The Center for Student Involvement Technology Department to have organization-wide PantherFile access set up for your organization.

To submit a question, please contact sao-it@uwm.edu.

Q.If there is more than one organization in an office, do we get more than one computer?
A. Maybe. All computers will be deployed based on a case-by-case basis. If there are multiple organizations in an office, and the office is large enough to accomodate two computers, we may be able to deploy multiple workstations.

Q. Our Group is using our office this summer, but doesn't have a computer, can we get a computer early?
A. Yes. You need to make special arrangements with the CSI Technology Department.

Q. If we have multiple desks in our office, does that mean we will get multiple computers?
A. Not Necessarily. Desks must be stable and in good working order. If the furniture is in any danger of collapsing or causing harm to the computer equipment, we reserve the right to remove all technology from the room until the furniture is repaired or replaced. Also, the environment the workstations are allocated to must be maintained and clear of garbage and other liquids.

Q. Does CSI-Tech recommend any software for normal maintenance?
A. Yes, CSI-Tech recommends both Malwarebytes and Ccleaner to perform regular maintenance on your computers.
