Computer Allocations

The allocation of computers to student organizations is changing this year. Moving forward, computers will be allocated to rooms, not organizations. If you are changing rooms, DO NOT move your computer from the room.

Your Data is Your Responsibility
All organizations, (including those without offices) have access to our file servers and/or PantherFile* for organization-related document and file storage. If you have documents stored on a computer, you are responsible for moving them to either the CSI Fileserver, PantherFile, or transferring them via USB thumb drive or burning optical media. If your organization has special software installed on your computer (such as the Adobe Creative Suite) it is your responsibility to contact the CSI Technology manager to make sure your applications transfer with you.

*See The Center for Student Involvement Technology Manager to have organization-wide PantherFile access set up for your organization.

F.A.Q.

To submit a question, please contact sao-it@uwm.edu.

Q.If there is more than one organization in an office, do we get more than one computer?
A. Maybe. All computers will be deployed based on a case-by-case basis. If there are multiple organizations in an office, and the office is large enough to accomodate two computers, we may be able to deploy multiple workstations.

Q. SAC recently allocated a computer to our organization, does that mean we automatically get an aditional computer in our office?
A. No. Offices can only support a finite number of computers. We will do our best to accomodate organizations, though. To contact the Senate Appropriations Committee directly, visit the SAC website and click the link that says "Contact Us."

Q. When is this change going to take place?
A. As things stand, computers should be allocated to rooms in mid to late August.

Q. Our Group is using our office this summer, but doesn't have a computer, can we get a computer early?
A. Yes. You need to make special arrangements with David Buell, the CSI Technology Manager. His information is located on the sidebar to the right of this page.

Q. If we have multiple desks in our office, does that mean we will get multiple computers?
A. Not Necessarily. Desks mus t be stable and in good working order. If the furniture is in any danger of collapsing or causing harm to the computer equipment, we reserve the right to remove all technology from the room until the furniture is repaired or replaced.
