Faculty win wide recognition

Sebastian Schmaling (M.Arch 1996) and Brian Johnsen (M.Arch 1997), johnsenschmaling.com, who are currently teaching at the School as "Professors in Practice", were recently recognized by the American Insitute of Architects.

Their projects, the Redaction House  and the Topo House , were awarded National Small Project Awards. These were two of a total of only 12 projects honored from around the country.

In the past few months, the team's work has been extensively covered in magazines, including Häuser (Germany); A+A: Architecture & Art (Architectural Society of China); House Trends (Portugal); Metal Architecture; Elle Décor (Russia); Designer and Designing (China); and Umran magazine (Saudi Arabia), and in books, including Chris Van Uffelen's Eco Living and 100 Contemporary Green Buildings

In 2013, Brian Johnsen and Sebastian Schmaling were named CriticalMass visiting critics at the University of North Carolina.
