Coordinated MPA/MUP Application

Application Deadlines: January 15 (fall admission), October 1 (spring admission)
Begin the application process one year in advance.

Candidates seeking admission to the MPA/MUP Program must apply to and be admitted to both programs. Submit only one application and fee to the Coordinated MPA/MUP Program.

Application to the Coordinated MPA/MUP Program requires a bachelor’s degree in any discipline and a cumulative GPA of at least 3.00 (4.0 scale). For the MPA Program, a background in public administration, American governmental institutions, economics, statistics, and computer applications in social science is beneficial.

SUBMIT TO UWM GRADUATE SCHOOL:

  1. Application, Reasons Statement and Fee
    Complete the UWM Graduate School application form on-line at: http://apply.wisconsin.edu
    Submit only one application and fee to the Coordinated MPA/MUP Program.

    Reasons Statement: Your online application should include your rationale for graduate study and pursuit of a professional degree. Your reasons statement should reflect why you are interested in pursuing this particular program and how your career interests fit with the degree.
  2. Transcripts
    One official transcript sent directly to the Graduate School from each undergraduate and graduate school attended. If you attended UWM as an undergraduate, the Graduate School will obtain transcripts from the UWM Undergraduate Records Office.
  3. Graduate Record Exam (GRE) – General Test Scores: Institution Code 1473
    Allow at least one month for receipt of all scores. Visit the GRE website for more information about registration and preparation: http://www.ets.org/gre. Preferred scores: top 50%-ile for each category.

SUBMIT TO BOTH PROGRAMS:

  1. Letters of Recommendation
    Three letters of recommendation from people familiar with your academic and/or professional work. Letters should be from non-related individuals who know you through previous academic programs or relevant professional activity. INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
In addition to submission of GRE General Test Scores, a minimum TOEFL score of 100 iBT or 600 PBT is required, or a score of 7.0 on the IELTS examination. Applicants with TOEFL scores from 79-99 iBT or 550-599 PBT, or an IELTS score of 6.5 will be considered for admission only with the stipulation that further course work in English be taken.
