Application Deadlines: January 15 (fall admission)
Begin the application process one year in advance.

Application to the M.S. Arch Program requires a bachelor’s degree in any discipline and a cumulative GPA of at least 3.00 (4.0 scale).

SUBMIT TO UWM GRADUATE SCHOOL:

  1. Application, Reasons Statement and Fee
    Complete the UWM Graduate School application form on-line at: http://apply.wisconsin.edu.

    Reasons Statement: A 2-3 page statement that includes your proposed area of investigation, a clear description of your intentions, and why the M.S. Arch Program is appropriate for your course of study. Address how your proposed area of study fits with faculty interest areas, what types of courses/subject areas you might pursue, and what faculty members might fit with your area of study. Indicate if you have contacted any faculty in this regard.
  2. Transcripts
    One official transcript sent directly to the Graduate School from each undergraduate and graduate school attended. If you attended UWM, the Graduate School will obtain these transcripts.
  3. Graduate Record Exam (GRE) – General Test: Institution Code 1473
    Allow at least one month for receipt of all scores. Visit the GRE website for more information about registration and preparation: http://www.ets.org/gre. Although there is no minimum score requirement, preferred scores are in the top 50%-ile for each category.

SUBMIT TO UWM SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE AND URBAN PLANNING, STUDENT ADVISING OFFICE:

  1. Letters of Recommendation
    Submit three letters of recommendation from people familiar with your academic and/or professional work. Recommendation forms are available online at: http://www4.uwm.edu/sarup/admissions/applying.cfm.
  2. Resume, Curriculum Vitae, or Biographical Statement
    Submit a resume, curriculum vitae, or biographical statement. In addition to the general information about your background, please include any background experience or expertise that relates to your reason for pursuing an M.S. Arch degree at UWM.
  3. Portfolio/Work Samples
     Examples of professional work, design work, research, teaching, and/or other work relevant to advanced research. The format should be 8-1/2” x 11” maximum size, bound with your name on outside front cover.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
In addition to submission of GRE General Test Scores, a minimum TOEFL score of 100 iBT or 600 PBT is required, or a score of 7.0 on the IELTS examination. Applicants with TOEFL scores from 79-99 iBT or 550-599 PBT, or an IELTS score of 6.5 will be considered for admission only with the stipulation that further course work in English be taken.
