Preparing Students for the Future
Planning for the future has always been the special province of this profession. The 21st century city is a place of increasing social and cultural texture and complexity. Planners need to have skills in working effectively across cultural and social boundaries, bringing people together in common cause while celebrating the diversity of ideas and customs that are part of the urban environment. The program welcomes students who bring diverse backgrounds and experiences.
Today, addressing the future is of special importance in the face of multiple ecological and climate challenges, which will place new stresses on cities while making cities an essential component of a livable planet in the decades—and centuries—ahead. The next generation of planners will confront those challenges head-on and leading their communities and regions to a more sustainable future.
