Professional Certificate in Nonprofit Management

 
In conjunction with the Helen Bader Institute for Nonprofit Management

The curriculum consists of competency areas central to nonprofit management: human resources development, oversight and ethics, planning and programming, economics and finances, and external relations.

Earn the certificate by completing 18 six-hour core workshops and a four-hour capstone session within two years. There are no elective sessions. Mini-certificates are awarded when you complete any of the previously mentioned competency areas.

The curriculum of the noncredit Certificate consists of 112 classroom hours or 11.2 Continuing Education Units. The Certificate is awarded upon completion of 18 six-hour workshops and a four-hour Capstone completion session. There are no elective sessions. Based on certificate evaluations and national surveys, the curriculum for the certificate consists of five general subject areas central to nonprofit management with workshops intended to develop practical, applied and useful skills in these areas:

I. Nonprofit Human Resource Development
II. Nonprofit Oversight and Ethics
III. Nonprofit Planning and Programming
IV. Nonprofit Economics and Finances
V. Nonprofit External Relations

"Mini-certificates" are awarded upon request confirming completion of any of the five major competency areas (NP Human Resource Development, NP Oversight and Ethics, NP Planning and Programming, NP Economics and Finances & NP External Relations).

  Nonprofit External Relations  
Nonprofit External Relations explores and increases skills in information systems. This area also addresses communication methods to satisfy internal and external stakeholders.

  Nonprofit Human Resource Development  
Human Resource Development is one of the five major competency areas offered through the Professional Certificate in Nonprofit Management. This specific competency area allows recipients to explore and increase skills in personnel management; interact among workgroups, staff and development boards; overcome barriers in communication across cultures; and hone ethical management techniques.

Nonprofit Oversight and Ethics is one of the five major competency areas offer through the Professional Certificate in Nonprofit Management. Participants learn how to explore and increase skills in internal and external organizational change, monitor external trends that have an impact on the sector, and develop effective methods of public advocacy and external relations communication planning.
