| This course will include the following topics: Programming for the troops during World War II (e.g., Command Performance, Mail Call); the radio comedy of Jack Benny; World War II radio traitors (e.g. Lord Haw Haw, Tokyo Rose, Axis Sally); and the career and tragic death of CBS News' Don Hollenbeck. The instructor will draw upon his personal collection for numerous audio examples of the above topics. Some tapes will be available for take-home listening. Presenter: Earl Grow taught at UW-Milwaukee for 30 years until retiring in 1998. He created the broadcast history course in the Department of Mass Communication and taught it for over 20 years. He has taught for Osher Lifelong Learning Institute for the past several years. |
