The UWM Writing Project - Teen Writing Academy; Gr. 9-12

Meet each day in groups facilitated by experienced writers and teachers whose common goals are to inspire the imagination, develop as writers and have fun! Writers will:
• Explore a variety of genres, including poetry, short stories, plays, graphic novels and essays
• Choose a genre on which to produce a final, polished piece of writing
• Learn writing techniques used by professional writers
• Receive individual instruction and response in small groups
• Engage in process writing: generating ideas, drafting, revising, editing and publishing writing
• Submit writing to the Scholastic Writing Competition with the chance to win college scholarships
• Celebrate our writing with a culminating community event designed to share our writing with parents, teachers and peers
You are required to identify a genre of focus for the week (poetry, fiction, narrative or essay), and are required to bring at least one piece or writing (completed or in progress) to the first day of the academy.
