Wonder of the Universe

Through lecture and multi-media content including short segments from Carl Sagan's Cosmos series, internet sites and Hubble space telescope pictures; this course will impart a basic understanding of the age and scope of the solar system, galaxy and our universe. The importance of stars as a basic building block of life will be discussed, as well as how space and astronomy can be easily accessible to everyone, even under city lights. Besides the four classroom sessions, this course will include one planetarium visit on a Friday night and one star-gazing night on a Wednesday night, dates TBA.

Presenter: Kathy Brehmer retired as the Manager of Budget for the Milwaukee Area Technical College in 2009. Since then she has served on the Leadership and Development Committee of Osher, tutored math for GED students and has enjoyed auditing classes at UWM through the 60+ audit program. She became interested in astronomy in the 1970's because of the space program.
