Mobile Robots - A Technology On the Move

 
This course includes an introduction to mobile robots including current applications, examples and basic technologies. There will be description and illustration of components of mobile robots with emphasis on critical technologies, as well as the different types of mobile robots and some specifics of each, including LEGO NXT, Roomba, humanoid, hexpod and others. In each class session one or more examples of the robots discussed are available for student observation and testing; in the third and fourth classes students have the opportunity to operate robot examples and try some reprogramming.

Presenter: Dennis Miller worked at Johson Controls for 35 years as an engineer and engineering manager. He retired in 2007 and since then has worked on the development of mobile robots both for fun and interest as a basis for teaching technology to middle and high school students. Dennis has taught courses on computer aided design, robotics, software and related topics through the Marquette University Engineering Outreach Program as well as for a number of organizations. He has been and continues to be a mentor for FIRST Robotics Competition teams.
