Design Like a Pro: Tips and Tricks to Make your Printed Pieces Look Professional

You don't have to be a trained graphic designer to learn the tricks that professionals use to make attractive, effective printed material. Learn basic design principles to enhance your printed projects. Then, use the computer to create a finished piece. Walk away with new-found courage to tackle your next newsletter, brochure, poster or other design project. Bring in a project for discussion. Oct. 13 session canceled.

More

The class will be taught in two sections. The first part is learning the fundamentals of design: contrast, color, choosing typefaces, how to use photos and illustrations, as well as brainstorming, planning your project, and preparing your design for printers or for the web. We will look at samples of both good and bad design. A LOT of information is covered and handouts will be provided.
The second portion of the class will be using the computer lab. Taking a project that we brainstormed in the first part of the class, each participant will create his/her own design using software that most people are familiar with - Microsoft Word and Adobe Photoshop. If participants have questions about using professional design software (Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.), the instructor will be happy to answer them.

Participants are encouraged to bring in a past, current or future project for discussion and ideas. At the beginning of class, the students are asked what they hope to get out of the class. The instructor tailors the information to the particpants' needs.
