	Chapter One: The Beginning that Shapes Your Novel

	The fate of a book can be determined within its first pages-- its success depends on the reader's initial response. This course focuses on shaping first chapters that not only hook a reader, but also introduce plot, character and theme in such a way as to forecast what is to follow. Using a workshop format, we read and discuss each other's work, learning from the instructor as well as each other.
