How Do Robots Think?

Robots and robotic systems include computers to enable them to accomplish their missions.  In science fiction projections of future robots they interact, for better or worse, on an almost equal intelligence level with humans.  This class explores some of the applications of robot “thought” that are being applied at the present.  This ranges from simple, relatively dumb robots to those that might be said to be “intelligent.”  Machine intelligence concepts such as genetic algorithms, neural networks, and expert systems will be discussed and illustrated.  Example robots will be used, with class participation to test some of the concepts.  This is not a class requiring a mathematics degree but one for people who like to think about thinking.
