Keith Sverdrup joined the faculty in the Department of Geosciences at UWM in 1983. He received his B.S. degree in geophysics from the University of Minnesota and his Ph.D. in earth science (seismology) from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California-San Diego. Prof. Sverdrup worked as program director at the National Science Foundation from 2005-07. His research interest is the relocation of earthquakes in remote regions of the world, particularly earthquakes occurring in the ocean basins. He has also conducted research on subsurface structures, including faults, in the upper Midwest by mapping variations in gravity. Prof. Sverdrup’s teaching interest is primarily oceanography and he is the principal author of three oceanography textbooks. He is a recipient of UWM's Undergraduate Teaching Award and is a fellow of the Geological Society of America.
