  Robert Meiksins
Forward Steps Consulting, LLC

Rob has served in the nonprofit sector for more than 30 years, in roles including intern, program manager, executive director, board director and consultant. Starting out in professional theater in New York City, Rob moved to Milwaukee to work with the Milwaukee Rep as the dramaturg. Later, he served as executive director of Future Milwaukee, the area’s oldest and most active community leadership development program. While there, he served as co-chair of the committee that created the non-degree certificate program at the Helen Bader Institute for Nonprofit Management.

As a consultant, Rob uses a holistic approach. He helps individuals and organizations articulate and then take the next step toward fulfilling their vision. He has worked with organizations as large as the United Way of Greater Milwaukee and as small as Ensemble Musical Offering. He focuses on strategic planning, board development, organizational development and fund development. He has authored and taught workshops on board governance, leadership development, strategic planning, the complementary roles of board and staff and more.

Currently, Rob serves as treasurer of the board of directors for the Milwaukee Area Time Exchange. He's on the Wisconsin Community Fund, a grantmaking committee of Forward Community Investments. The fund has established a community-engaged granting program, empowering communities to determine how funds will be distributed to local organizations that are too new, too small or too controversial to receive traditional funding. And Rob is also a newswire correspondent for the Nonprofit Quarterly.
