Mark Sekula is president of Facility Futures, Inc., a global facility management consulting firm. Facility Futures provides strategic facility planning, real estate planning, workplace planning and programming, facility management organizational planning, owner’s representation, occupancy management, project management, facility management outsourcing transition management, sustainability consulting, teaching and training. With 36+ years of facility management experience, he has served as a facilities management practitioner in the manufacturing, healthcare and technology industries. For the past 16 years as a facility management consultant, he has provided guidance, expertise, strategic planning and project management to clients, helping them develop strategies for the future of their real estate assets, physical workplaces and facility management organizations.
He has been a Certified Facility Manager since 1993, and also carries the Facility Management Professional credential. He is also an accredited professional in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. In 2011, Mr. Sekula was bestowed the highest honor given by the International Facility Management Association (IFMA) when he was named an IFMA Fellow. Mr. Sekula has served on the board of the IFMA’s Southeast Wisconsin Chapter and as a director on the IFMA International Board of Directors. He founded the IFMA Facility Management Consultants Council and is past chair of the Southeast Wisconsin IFMA Chapter’s Education Committee. He was also co-chair of the IFMA Strategic Planning Task Group, which published the nationally-recognized Strategic Facility Planning White Paper in 2009. Currently he serves as a subject matter expert for the development of facility management curriculum for IFMA as well as IFMA certification liaison for the state of Wisconsin. He has also conducted a national research project on the physical workplace in relation to its impact on the Best Places to Work in America.
He has been a speaker and guest lecturer on facilities management and business issues at numerous national conferences and at colleges and universities. He is a certified instructor of IFMA and teaches the FMP and CFM certification and credentialing classes nationally. He is also an instructor in facility management at Northern Illinois University. He has had numerous articles published on facilities management and business issues in a variety of national and international trade journals. Mr. Sekula also co-authored the recently published book titled, “The Facility Manager’s Field Guide” which is available at amazon.com.
He has also been recognized for his accomplishments by IFMA numerous times. Included among his awards are the Distinguished Consultant of the Year award, the IFMA Editor’s Pick Award, the Southeast WI IFMA Chapter Member Recognition Award and the SE WI IFMA Outstanding Achievement Award.
Mr. Sekula holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Architectural Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee School of Architecture and Urban Planning and a certificate from the Kellogg Management Institute-Management Certificate Program at Northwestern University.
