“Sophocles' Oedipus Trilogy: A New Verse Translation”  Understand the challenge of translating ancient drama into iambic pentameter and rhymed stanzas in idiomatic English. Hear selected passages read aloud, along with synopses of the action of the three dramas: Sophocles' Oedipus Rex, Oedipus at Colonus, and Antigone. David Mulroy, a Stanford Ph.D., taught classics at UWM from 1973 until his retirement in 2012. He is the author of The War Against Grammar and several volumes of translations of ancient Greek and Latin poetry, most recently Sophocles' Antigone (University of Wisconsin Press, 2012).
