  Special Interest Groups  
An array of topics await you! To join a Special Interest Group, Osher members should contact the Special Interest Group Chair with your interest and any questions before attending a meeting. Osher members pay an annual fee of $15 to attend as many Special Interest Groups as desired.

BOOK GROUP
Meets 10am-12pm on the third Tuesday of each month from September to June. Discuss selected books of fiction. Books are chosen each June for the following year. Members volunteer to lead discussions in an informal manner. Qualifications: a love of reading and a desire to share knowledge of good books. Contact person is Cathy Morris-Nelson, 414-352-2839. The group meets at the Shorewood Public Library at 3920 N. Murray Avenue in Shorewood.

EARTH WISDOM
Meets 10:30am-12pm on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month. Discover lessons Earth has to teach about living cooperatively with one another and with the planet. Contact person is Dale Olen, 262-339-5481. The group meets in the UWM Hefter Conference Center billiard room.

FRENCH
Meets 10:30am-12pm every Wednesday. Read selected texts and review grammatical points and idioms. Focus is on oral comprehension and the understanding of written text. Qualifications: intermediate-advanced level of proficiency. Contact person is Marc McSweeney, 414-788-5929. The group meets in the UWM Hefter Conference Center dining room.

GERMAN CONVERSATION
Meets 1-2:30pm on second and fourth Tuesdays of each month. Members speak in German, with as little English or translation as possible. Contact person is Valerie Brumder, 414-352-4506. The group meets in UWM Hefter Conference Center billiard room.

GOLD STAR MYSTERIES
Meets 1:30-3pm on the first Thursday of each month. Examine a selection of noteworthy modern mysteries. Discussion centers around not only content, but also the book's relationship to other books in the field. Titles are generally available at the library or purchased at a book store. Each group member is asked to read two books per month. Contact person is Beverly DeWeese, 414-332-7306. The group meets in the UWM Hefter Conference Center dining room.

HISTORY
Meets 9-10am on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month from September to May. Read and discuss books selected by consensus. Members volunteer to lead a discussion in an informal manner. Qualifications: an interest in history and a readiness to participate in discussion. Contact person is John Link, 414-588-5162. Meetings are held in the UWM Hefter Conference Center billiard room.

ITALIAN
Meets 12-1:30pm every Tuesday. Learn the language and culture of Italy. The group uses a workbook and other lessons, converses in Italian and listens to the language. Qualifications: all are welcome but most members know some Italian and some know it very well. Contact person is Silvana Kukuljan, 414-935-2958. The group meets in the UWM Hefter Conference Center dining room.

SPANISH
Meets 9:30-11:30am every Thursday. Read and translate from Spanish journals and selected books, and converse in Spanish. Contact person is Tony LoBue, 414-364-4936. Group meets in UWM Hefter Conference Center dining room.

SPANISH CONVERSATION
Meets 9:30-11:30am every Tuesday. Focus is on translation. Qualifications: intermediate level of proficiency. Contact person is Simon Arenzon, 262-242-2035. This group meets in the UWM Hefter Conference Center library.

THAI
Meets 1-3pm every Wednesday. Focus is on spoken Thai and culture. All levels welcome. Members use American University Alumni Book for lessons and drills. Peace Corps training techniques such as buddy system and role playing are incorporated in the language sessions for fun and easy learning. Contact person is Somchintana Ratarasarn, 414-771-9065. The group meets at the UWM School of Continuing Education. This group is not meeting until further notice. Contact Somchintana Ratarasarn if you are interested in this group and wish to receive future updates.

WRITING
Meets 1:30-3pm on the first and third Tuesdays of each month from August to June. Share your writing with others, receive feedback and give encouragement. The only qualification is a desire to write. Contact person is Nancy Martin, 414-339-1172. The group meets in the UWM Hefter Conference Center billiard room.
