Facility Management

Facility Management is a profession that encompasses multiple disciplines to ensure functionality of the built environment by integrating people, place, process and technology.

Facilities are typically a company's second-largest asset, right after its employees.  A well-designed, well-managed facility can help employees be more productive.  When people are able to do their best work, they are more fulfilled and happier.  This can help a company retain its best employees and attract new ones.  Thus, a well-managed facility can have a positive impact on a company's bottom line.

Engineers in transition to management are usually thrown into this role without adequate coaching. The purpose of these continuing education programs is to steer engineers in the direction of people skills. These are skills that "left-brained" professionals usually do not consider important to learn but can greatly help them develop in their career.
