Top 5 Strategies for Assembling a Dream Team

Constructive teams are the heart of successful organizations. They improve efficiency, output, morale and overall business health. When planning team–building strategies this year, consider the 5 trending tips for improving team dynamics and performance:

  1. Adopt an open–door policy
You’ve heard it time and time again – good communication is crucial to successful relationships. And it’s especially important at work. An open–door policy keeps communication flowing, makes employees feel comfortable and improves team morale. Of course there are situations that call for privacy, but keep the overall lines of communication open and inviting.

  2. Understand work styles
Each team member possesses a set of strengths and weaknesses. Understanding the different personalities helps identify how each individual works best individually and together. Consider taking personality test such as the Myers–Briggs Type Indicator.

  3. Attitude adjustments
A positive attitude is contagious – so is a negative one. Employees will mirror a leader’s attitude, so be sure your reflection is one you want to see in others.

  4. Shout outs
Build morale by making staff feel appreciated. If they completed a project on time or within budget, be sure to celebrate the accomplishment.

  5. Focus on resolution rather than being “right”
Even the most functional team faces conflict. It’s how they resolve it that’s key. When working toward resolution, focus first on strengthening relationships rather than placing blame. Hear and respect each team member’s opinion.
