| Cecilia Lewandowski came to the Center for Consumer Affairs in 1994 as support staff for the Auto Accident Compensation Project. The Project's activities included regional conferences for which Cecilia located hotels and meeting sites, facilitated travel arrangements for speakers and participants, and provided on-site support. She provided similar support to the Dispute Settlement Board training workshops held in various locations several times each year. Cecilia also provided background and onsite support for numerous other Center programs as diverse as an annual teachers' conference, workshops around the state on quality child care issues, and advocacy training held on the Madison campus and at the state capitol each summer. Twelve years ago the Center for Consumer Affairs began coordinating Wisconsin's participation in the LifeSmarts program of the National Consumers League. Cecilia's provided support to the first coordinators and now holds that position. LifeSmarts is a consumer education competition for high school and middle school students. Cecilia says her favorite part of her tenure at the Center for Consumer Affairs had been the opportunity to meet and work with people from all regions of the country. Cecilia believes her service in the Woman's Army Corps and later in the United States Army Reserve fostered her love of meeting and interacting with people as well as developing a yen for travel. Among other interests, she has been accumulating undergraduate credits here at UWM, and hopes to attain a degree before becoming the oldest person to be wheeled on-stage for her diploma. |
