Students will work with Dr. Marcia Silva and colleagues at the Water Technology Accelerator in historic Walker's Point. The students will be introduced to fundamentals of materials sciences applied to water technology and contribute to experiments using a variety of advanced equipment for materials characterization, including Zetasizer, FTIR, Raman, microscopes, thermal analyzer and equipment to study metal oxide deposition. Through this FYRE, students will become familiar with modern methods of materials characterization similar to those encountered in industrial testing facilities and government laboratories. Students with a strong background in math and chemistry are desirable; an interest in water technology is mandatory. This class will meet at the Global Water Center, 247 W Freshwater Way, Milwaukee, WI 53204; 7th floor, conference room 710.
