Since 1990 the Solid and Hazardous Waste Education Center (SHWEC) has worked to improve Wisconsin's environment and economy by providing quality environmental education, information and technical assistance to promote the protection and sustainable use of natural resources throughout Wisconsin. |

Industrial and Community Recycling: Improving industrial and community recycling efficiency through on-site technical assistance, education programs, information and internet resources with special emphasis on the following materials: tires, wood waste, computers and electronics, oil filters/sorbents, and high volume industrial byproducts such as paper mill residuals, foundry sands, and utility ash
Renewable Energy From Biomass: Utilization of biomass for the generation of electricity or thermal energy, including materials such as wood waste, manures and crop residue
Industrial Pollution Prevention: Elimination or reducing industrial pollution through on-site technical assistance, educational programs, technical information and internet resources
