About the UWM School of Education

The UW-Milwaukee School of Education prepares you for a career as a teacher, counselor or principal, or as an educator working in non-school settings such as child care centers, social service agencies, business, government and industry.

You will learn from distinguished faculty who are recognized internationally for their scholarship, leadership and research. We work closely with more than 200 area schools and agencies, giving you the opportunity to have hands-on field experience. You will also learn by interacting with over 2,000 classmates, with varied backgrounds and experience.

Professional growth continues with a full slate of master's degree programs and Wisconsin's only Ph.D. program in Urban Education. For continuing education, our Education Outreach programs keep you at the top of your field.

We also offer the only four-year degree Interpreter Training Program in Wisconsin that prepares you to work with the deaf and hard of hearing. A variety of evening and online courses provide you with flexibility in scheduling, giving you the opportunity to achieve your academic goals.

At the heart of our program is an urban mission, preparing you to meet the unique social and economic challenges facing urban schools. With an education degree from UWM's School of Education, you'll take your place among skilled and motivated professional educators who are sought after by schools and agencies in metropolitan Milwaukee and across the county.

During the period from Summer 2004-Spring 2005, 1007 students were enrolled in our teacher education programs at UWM. Of those, 451 were in programs of supervised student teaching in th School of Education. These programs averaged 35 hours per week for 20 weeks. These student teachers were supervised by 46 supervisors (faculty or staff).
