Portfolio Information
The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction requires all candidates in professional education programs to develop a portfolio as part of a completion requirement. These professional educators include: Teachers, Reading Specialists, Library Media Specialists, Speech/Language Pathologists, School or District Administrators, School Psychologists, School Counselors, and School Social Workers.
All students in UWM's professional education programs are required to develop an e-portfolio. Using an electronic, Web-based system has many benefits. It will provide a digital workspace to create and maintain important artifacts related to your growth as a professional. This e-portfolio can be shared instantaneously with professors, classmates, and groups for assessment and collaboration. It is designed to be a developmental process for you and allow you opportunity to reflect on your knowledge, skills, and experiences as you move through the program.

Note for Director of Instruction Students
For students who are completing their principalship certification/masters degree along with the director of instruction certification, their portfolio will be considered as fulfilling the portfolio requirements for both certifications. Students who have their principal certification and are completing their director of instruction certification separately will be required to submit a portfolio update that focuses on learning and skills directly related to the areas of curriculum, instruction, and assessment. The updated portfolio will include at least one artifact and accompanying reflection for two of the Wisconsin administrative standards that are tied to learning and skills involving curriculum, instruction, and/or assessment. In addition the student's professional plan will be updated with a focus on the areas included within the new certification. The review of the updated portfolio will be conducted by the student's University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee Administrative Leadership advisor.
