Tenor High School Earns National Certification for Project Lead the Way

This April, Tenor High School received national certification for its Project Lead the Way (PLTW) program. Tenor has participated in the PLTW program since 2010. Currently, 51 students are enrolled in the program at Tenor and participate in Introduction to Engineering Design (IED), Principles of Engineering (POE), and Civil Engineering and Architecture (CEA).

PLTW prepares students to be innovative and productive leaders in STEM fields through a rigorous, hands-on curriculum. The program encourages the development of problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and creative innovative reasoning. The project-based program allows students to apply what they are learning in math and science class to real-life engineering and technology projects. It engages students on multiple levels, exposes them to areas of study that they typically do not pursue, and provides them with a foundation and proven path to college and career success.

A day long audit was conducted with input from MSOE representatives, Tenor staff, and a Community Partnership Team. Part of the audit included student project presentations. At its conclusion, Tenor walked away with national certification for its PLTW program. Having this certification allows students at Tenor participating in the program to receive college admissions preference, college credit, and scholarships at PLTW affiliate universities, including MSOE.

In addition to receiving national certification this month, Tenor students were eager to share what they've learned with the seventh grade PLTW Students at Windlake Academy.  The seventh grade students worked with vex kits, circuit boards, the inventor program and much more.  The connections that were developed between the Windlake and Tenor students will be very beneficial for the future of the PLTW program throughout Seeds of Health.
