Information on E-Portfolios:
About the E-PortfolioPortfolios have been a certification requirement for Wisconsin’s initial educators since August 31, 2004 under Wisconsin’s Quality Educator Initiative known as PI 34.

Specifically, the administrative rules require that, “Each student shall have a portfolio of evidence that the standards [in one’s prospective field] have been met.” PI 34.13 (3) (b). Since 2006, UWM programs have gradually shifted to the use of electronic portfolios.

As of the 2008-09 academic year, new students in all professional education programs are required to subscribe to LiveText and do their portfolios electronically.

With these requirements and additional benefits in mind, we see the e-portfolio as a place to:
  • Present and share evidence that professional standards are being met.
  • Reflect on the Core Guiding Principle of Urban Education/Equity, your program standards, and your performance.
  • Receive assessment feedback on the standards using a rubric designed for this purpose. The assessment features of LiveText also give UWM the ability to collect and aggregate data for program evaluation and improvement.
  • Collect important artifacts that can be shared with others, including potential employers.
The E-Portfolio TemplateThis is a standards-based portfolio and thus has some components built into a template that candidates use as a starting point. The basic template is organized with the following table of contents:

  • Introduction
  • Resume
  • Philosophy Statement (the Core Guiding Principle of Urban Education/Equity is included for consideration & reflection)
  • Standards (the UWM-WI Standards are presented and the linked content standards adopted by one’s licensure program.)
  • Field Evaluations
  • Professional Development Plan
  • Candidate Status Form (this form is completed at the beginning of the e-portfolio and updated at completion)
E-Portfolio Faculty Workgroup
The information included in this website and related PDF handouts were developed with faculty and student input. Students attending the start-up workshops have offered suggestions to make the information more useful to them. An E-Portfolio Faculty Workgroup helped develop many of the faculty pages and related handouts. This work was supported, in part, by the Teachers for a New Era (TNE) project, funded by the Carnegie Corporation of New York.
