The use of technology-based environments for adult learning, teaching, and work productivity is an emerging area in the field of adult and continuing education. The focus area in Instructional Design and Educational Technology emphasizes the use of technology for instruction of adults, instructional design, distance education, and issues related to the use of technology for adult learning. It is designed for individuals interested in working as instructional designers, technology consultants, curriculum developers, or adult educators in staff development, training, business, health care fields, or continuing education settings.
The last decade of the twentieth century and the new decade of the twenty-first century have witnessed dynamic social, economic, and technological advances that have revolutionized communications via digital networks. A networked society has tremendous implications for teaching and learning.
